Cyprus tourism hits record highs, but who’s spending the most?

Data reveals Israelis, Americans, and Europeans lead in daily and per capita spending.

Newsroom

Cyprus is experiencing a surge in tourism, but not all visitors are equally generous with their wallets. Recent data sheds light on which travelers contribute most to the island’s economy.

The Statistical Service reported last week that tourist arrivals in August 2025 reached an all-time high of 602,026. According to an article in 24news by Andreas Polycarpou, over the first eight months of the year, arrivals rose by 10%, or 275,528 more than during the same period in 2024. July also set a record this year, with 589,116 visitors.

Rising revenue
Tourism is not just drawing crowds. It’s also boosting revenue. Between January and July 2025, earnings from the sector reached an estimated €1.891 billion, up 17.4% from €1.610 billion in the same months last year. Average spending per tourist in July 2025 was €870.78, slightly higher than €859.95 in July 2024.

Who’s opening their wallets?
While arrivals are climbing, spending patterns vary widely by nationality. The largest visitor group, Britons, made up 32.2% of tourists in July but spent €100.29 per day on average. Israelis, the second-largest group at 13%, spent €151.10 daily, while Polish visitors, who ranked third at 7.4%, spent €90.23.

The highest daily spenders in July 2025 were:

  1. Israel: €151.10
  2. Lebanon: €146.58
  3. Austria: €130.45
  4. Belgium: €124.50
  5. Denmark: €118.54

Looking at per capita spending, which factors in the total expenditure over a visitor’s stay, a different pattern emerges:

  1. United States: €1,114
  2. Belgium: €1,095
  3. Sweden: €1,029
  4. Denmark: €1,007
  5. Austria: €1,004

The numbers showcase that while some markets draw more visitors, others contribute more per traveler, making them key players in Cyprus’s growing tourism economy.
