Construction workers in Limassol are working around the clock to turn an old supermarket site into a temporary casino, the first in the Republic of Cyprus which will open this summer.
The temporary casino along with other satellite locations in the south - Nicosia, Paphos, Larnaca, Famagusta - will operate under a license awarded to Melco Resorts & Entertainment (Melco), as Melco-CNS Consortium, which is also developing the first casino-resort in all of Europe.
Satellite casinos will also operate in Nicosia, Paphos, Larnaca, and Famagusta. But in Limassol, until the City of Dreams Mediterranean opens its doors in 2021, in Zakaki, a temporary casino will operate nearby in what used to be the Orphanides Supermarket before it went bankrupt.
It is estimated that this world-class project will attract 300,000 additional visitors each year, which would be a significant boost to the overall industry which is currently suffering from seasonal fluctuations, with hectic summers and dead winters.

About 4,000 people are expected to be employed during construction of the casino-resort, while 6,500 would be needed to either fill staff positions or work in some capacity for the development, directly or indirectly.
The first 500 job openings will be announced in phases on the site www.cityofdreamsmed.com.cy around April, according to online daily Kathimerini. And as of Wednesday evening, the first 39 positions have already been announced in the fields of economics, construction, Information Technology, Security and Casino Operations.
The resort will have a gaming area with 136 tables and 1200 games and machine slots, as well as a five-star hotel on site with 500 rooms, meeting and conference facilities, an auditorium with 1500 seats, and areas for wellness and entertainment.
