It’s not every day that the President of France and the First Lady step out for a quiet dinner, and it’s even more special when that dinner is at a Greek restaurant run by a celebrated Cypriot chef.
President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, were spotted enjoying a private meal at Mavrommatis, the Michelin-starred restaurant in Paris renowned for blending high-end dining with the warmth and flavor of Greek tradition. The couple dined alone on Friday evening, April 4, according to exclusive images and reports aired on Greek television.
Mavrommatis has been a culinary landmark in the French capital since 1981, thanks to the passion and talent of Andreas Mavrommatis, a Cypriot chef who has spent decades introducing Greek cuisine to French and international palates. His restaurant has held a Michelin star since 2018 — a symbol of its consistent excellence.
In 2016, Mavrommatis was named “Man of the Year” at the Bank of Cyprus Man of the Year Awards, a nod to both his professional success and his role as an ambassador of Greek culture abroad.
On this particular evening, the Macrons weren’t there for publicity or politics — just a quiet night out and good food. According to the report, they savored a series of signature dishes crafted by Mavrommatis himself. As a finishing touch, the French president ordered a Greek coffee, a nod of appreciation for the chef’s roots.
In a lighthearted moment captured on video, Macron spoke briefly with a Greek journalist, expressing his fondness for Greece and proudly sharing the one Greek word he knows: “please.”
For Mavrommatis, whose culinary journey has been built on honoring Greek flavors with a refined French twist, this presidential visit is yet another highlight in a career defined by passion, precision, and a love for sharing a taste of home.
