Former President Donald Trump made an unusual appearance at a McDonald’s in suburban Pennsylvania on Sunday, attempting to present himself as a relatable “everyman” president by donning an apron and working the drive-thru. However, the spectacle soon took a political turn as Trump once again raised unsubstantiated claims of election fraud.
The event, which took place at a McDonald’s franchise in Lower Southampton Township, was organized by Trump’s campaign. The restaurant, owned by a supporter, was closed for the roughly hour-long photo op. A sign on the door announced the closure until 4 p.m., after Trump and his entourage departed.
During his visit, Trump, wearing an apron tied by a McDonald’s employee, received a quick demonstration on how to work the fry station before sticking his head out of the drive-thru window to hand out orders and chat with supporters.
At one point, a reporter asked Trump if he would accept the results of the upcoming 2024 election.
“Yeah, sure, if it’s a fair election,” Trump replied, his head poking out of the drive-thru window.
Trump, along with his running mate JD Vance, has repeatedly made baseless claims about election fraud, a stance he continued to push on Sunday. His previous efforts to challenge the 2020 election results failed in court, and audits found no evidence of widespread fraud. Despite this, Trump has continued to cast doubt on election integrity and seems prepared to contest future results.
His actions following the 2020 election, including encouraging supporters to disrupt the certification of the Electoral College results, led to congressional reforms in how that process is conducted.
