A community is in mourning following the tragic death of 36-year-old Stella Michael, who passed away just two days after giving birth to her second child. Her sudden loss has left family, friends, and colleagues devastated.
On November 29, Stella underwent a caesarean section at a private clinic. Despite the initial success of the procedure, she tragically passed away two days later. Authorities have categorized the incident as a "sudden death" and are conducting an investigation. An autopsy was performed by forensic experts, but the precise cause of death is pending further investigation.
Stella’s funeral will take place on Wednesday, December 4, at the Holy Church of St. Minas in Geri, where her loved ones and community members will gather to bid her farewell. Stella was a valued professional and active community member, leaving an indelible mark in her personal and professional life.
Stella worked with the Cyprus Presidency Secretariat of the EU Council and was on secondment from the Water Development Department. Her colleagues described her as distinguished and hardworking, expressing deep sorrow over her loss. The Deputy Minister of State for European Affairs and Secretariat staff extended their condolences to her family. The Water Development Department issued an emotional statement, mourning the loss of "one of our own." They pledged support for Stella’s family, including her grieving parents, husband, and two young children, calling her death an unimaginable tragedy.
The activist group Antifascist Block Cy honored Stella not only as a brilliant scientist but as a compassionate individual and advocate for the environment and social harmony. They praised her efforts to protect Cyprus’ natural landscapes, particularly Akamas, and her vision for a united and peaceful Cyprus.
Those who knew Stella described her as a dedicated professional, a loving mother, and a passionate advocate for the environment and social justice. Her untimely death has left a void, but her values and vision continue to inspire. As her family and community struggle to cope with this profound loss, her legacy of love for her family, commitment to her work, and advocacy for a better Cyprus will remain in their hearts
