Cyprus woke up to yet another tremor early Friday, adding to a string of small but persistent earthquakes that have kept residents on edge since Wednesday.
Friday’s quake, recorded shortly after dawn, measured 3.0 on the Richter scale, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre. Its epicenter was about 14 kilometers from Paphos and roughly 49 kilometers from Limassol.
It’s the latest in a run of seismic activity that began mid-week. Two quakes shook the island on Wednesday, followed by another two on Thursday, including a stronger one that reached 5.3 and was felt across several districts.
While Friday’s tremor was minor, the repeated jolts have stirred concern and plenty of chatter, especially in the Paphos district, where most of the activity has been centered. So far, authorities haven’t reported any damage or injuries.
Seismologists say the cluster isn’t unusual for the region, which sits in a seismically active zone, but the frequency has residents watching their coffee cups a little more closely than usual. More updates are expected if additional tremors occur.
