Asylum seeker trends: Declining numbers and shifting origins

Analyzing the decrease in asylum applications from top countries of origin, June 2023 vs June 2022

According to data obtained by "K" from the Asylum Service of the Ministry of Interior, the top five countries of origin for asylum seekers and the number of applications received in June 2023 are as follows:

- Syria: 414 applications
- Afghanistan: 59 applications
- Nigeria: 40 applications
- Somalia: 24 applications
- Cameroon: 22 applications

Comparing these numbers to June 2022, there has been a decrease. The top five countries of origin and the corresponding application numbers for June 2022 are as follows:

- Syria: 653 applications
- DR Congo: 330 applications
- Nigeria: 268 applications
- Pakistan: 230 applications
- Bangladesh: 192 applications

In summary, the total number of applications in June 2022 was 2,401, whereas in June 2023, it decreased to 735.
