The Independent Authority Against Corruption is set to release on Thursday its findings in a long-running investigation into a serving state official accused of possible acts of corruption and abuse of power.
According to an article by Kathimerini's Dorita Yiannakou, the confidential report, submitted to Transparency Commissioner and Authority President Haris Poyatzis, has been finalized for some time but its release was delayed due to illness among key officials, according to sources close to the investigation.
The case is among several high-profile probes the Authority is preparing to conclude by the end of the year, including four separate corruption-related investigations.
The Authority’s first major report previously identified potential criminal offenses such as fraud, forgery and conspiracy to defraud by former EDEK party leader and Limassol MP Marinos Sizopoulos.
Upcoming reports include an inquiry into donations worth €205,000 made to the Democratic Rally (DISY) by investors who had recently obtained Cypriot citizenship, following a 2022 complaint by AKEL MP Christos Christofides. Another nearing completion concerns the Trimiklini development “The Land of Dreams,” which has operated since 2012 without required permits.
Also expected by year’s end is an update on the Authority’s largest and most complex investigation to date: the probe inspired by journalist Makarios Drousiotis’ book “Mafia State.” The investigation, led by Australian legal expert Gabrielle McIntyre, is structured around five chapters reflecting the book’s allegations, two of which have already been completed.
The Authority is expected to finalize all pending reports by late 2025, marking a decisive phase in Cyprus’s ongoing anti-corruption drive.
