A body discovered Monday in a rural area of eastern Paphos was identified as a 79-year-old man who had been reported missing since May 8, police said, bringing a days-long search operation to a tragic end.
Authorities found the body in an open field near the village of Praetori after an extensive search involving police officers, drones equipped with thermal cameras, sniffer dogs and a helicopter.
According to initial information, investigators had first located the elderly man’s vehicle in the area, prompting large-scale searches that began Sunday both on foot and from the air.
Despite efforts using thermal imaging technology, the man was not immediately found.
The discovery of the body on Monday triggered a full mobilization of emergency and investigative services at the scene.
Police said the body will be transported for a formal autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
The man’s relatives have been informed.
The case remains under investigation.
