Rock icon Jon Bon Jovi is being credited with helping save a woman’s life on Wednesday after encountering her on the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge in downtown Nashville.

As reported by New York Post, the incident occurred around 6 p.m. while Bon Jovi was filming a music video for his song “People’s House.” In surveillance footage shared by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, the singer approached the woman, who appeared to be preparing to jump.

With the help of another bystander, Bon Jovi talked to the woman and persuaded her to step back from the ledge. The two then helped pull her to safety. Afterward, Bon Jovi embraced the woman in a comforting hug.

The police and fire department arrived shortly after the incident, which took place while the bridge remained open to the public. Police Chief John Drake praised Bon Jovi’s actions, noting that it takes a collective effort to keep the community safe.

Though Bon Jovi has declined to comment publicly, out of respect for the woman’s privacy, his experience with crisis intervention likely played a role. In 2006, the singer founded the JBJ Soul Foundation, which focuses on helping people overcome homelessness, poverty, and hunger.

Bon Jovi’s actions were widely praised on social media, with many hailing him as a hero. The bridge where the event took place is notably named after a journalist who also saved a man from jumping off it in the 1950s.
