Brrr...Cyprus is about to get a serious chill. Meteorologists warn that Monday will likely be the coldest day of the winter so far, with temperatures plunging well below seasonal averages. In the interior, morning lows could dip to around 10°C, while in the mountains, it could drop below freezing.
Speaking on SPOR FM 95.00, meteorologist Panagiotis Ligkis said a sharp 5-degree temperature drop is expected, with icy mornings across the island and frost forming in higher altitudes.
The cold front is already stirring things up. Tonight, much of the island will see cloudy skies, with isolated showers likely in the west. Up in the Troodos mountains, some sleet or wet snow can’t be ruled out.
Weekend Weather Rundown
Saturday: Mostly cloudy, local showers, and snow on the higher peaks of Troodos, mainly at night.
Sunday: Scattered showers in the southwest; snow continues in the mountains.
Monday: Isolated rain or mountain snow, with temperatures lingering below the long-term average.
By Tuesday, things should start to warm up again, with temperatures creeping back to more typical winter levels.
Right now, snow depth in Chionistra has already reached 28 centimeters, a reminder that winter is very much still here. Winds will stay light, from the northwest to northeast, and seas calm to slightly choppy, perfect for winter scenery if you’re bundled up.
So, grab your coats, your scarves, and maybe an extra cup of coffee. Cyprus is in for a frosty Monday, and the mountains are calling for snow lovers.
