Greek authorities have uncovered a cocaine shipment bound for Cyprus after intercepting two suspicious parcels at Athens International Airport.
The case was launched by the Narcotics Sub-Directorate of Greece’s Organized Crime Directorate, often described as the country’s “FBI”, after officers analyzed intelligence pointing to unusual postal activity. Early on the morning of January 15, airport narcotics police flagged two packages that immediately raised red flags.

The parcels were declared as containing board games and were addressed to recipients in Cyprus. Once placed under surveillance, investigators discovered that the boxes were anything but innocent. Hidden inside were two makeshift nylon-wrapped packages containing cocaine, with a total gross weight of just over 2.1 kilograms.
Rather than seize the drugs outright, Greek authorities opted for a controlled delivery. With the approval of prosecutors, the operation moved into its next phase, allowing the shipment to continue its journey under close watch. Greek police then coordinated closely with their counterparts in Cyprus as part of international law enforcement cooperation.
The operation reached its conclusion on Tuesday, January 20, in Limassol, where officers from Cyprus’ Anti-Narcotics Service arrested a 28-year-old man believed to be linked to the receipt of the drug-laced parcels.
Investigations into the case are continuing.
