Cyprus detects five new coronavirus cases

The new cases - two who got tested privately, a contact, an airport arrival, and a person who was set to undergo surgery - raised total known cases in Cyprus to 1,495

Five coronavirus cases were detected on Wednesday, when 2,643 lab tests were conducted, with the new cases raising the total to 1,495.

According to the health ministry, two of the new cases were detected among people who tested at their own initiative, one was a contact of another known case, one was detected at a Cyprus airport, and the final case involved a person who got tested prior to undergoing surgery.

Regarding the two cases involving people who got tested privately, one got tested after developing symptoms, while the second involves an Indian national with a recent history of travel to India, and who took the test prior to returning to work.

The airport arrival involved an asymptomatic local woman who flew in to Paphos airport from Prague on Wednesday.

 Currently, the Famagusta general hospital is treating five coronavirus patients, one of which is in the ICU. The hospital discharged one patient on Monday. Additionally, one more coronavirus patient is receiving treatment at the Nicosia general hospital ICU.
