Driver fined €30,000 for deliberately hitting dog near Thessaloniki

Pet owner also penalized for neglect as incident sparks outrage

In a shocking incident near Thessaloniki, Greece, a 28-year-old man was arrested in Halkidona for intentionally swerving his car to hit a dog. The cruel act left the animal injured and sparked widespread outrage.

Authorities responded quickly, imposing a hefty €30,000 fine on the driver for his actions. He is now set to appear before a prosecutor to face potential criminal charges.

While justice for the injured dog is being pursued, its owner didn’t escape scrutiny either. The owner was fined a total of €1,600 for failing to meet legal responsibilities, including registering the dog, ensuring its vaccinations were up-to-date, and following proper safety measures during walks.

The incident serves as a grim reminder of the consequences of animal cruelty and neglect. Greek laws impose strict penalties for harming animals, highlighting the country’s commitment to animal welfare. At the same time, pet owners are reminded of their legal obligations to ensure their pets’ safety and well-being.

The case is expected to proceed in the coming days as prosecutors review the charges against the driver. Meanwhile, the injured dog is recovering, a small comfort in an otherwise disturbing episode.
