While most of Cyprus was still celebrating the arrival of the new year, fireworks popping, glasses clinking and music playing a little too loud, the first baby of 2026 made her entrance in Limassol, arriving with perfect timing and just a hint of drama.
Cue the drum roll.
At 2:25 a.m. on January 1, a baby girl was born naturally at a private hospital in Limassol, officially becoming the first child born in Cyprus in 2026. Her mother had been admitted shortly after midnight with signs of labor, right as the island was still deep into New Year’s Eve celebrations.
The baby’s parents, Russian nationals who are permanent residents of Cyprus, welcomed their daughter after what doctors described as a smooth and uncomplicated birth. Hospital staff said both mother and baby are in excellent health.
As revelers elsewhere were still dancing, counting down, or making their way home under a fading night sky, this newborn quietly marked the year’s first milestone. No fireworks, no speeches, just a new life, a proud family, and a hopeful beginning to 2026 in Limassol.
