It looked more like mid-January than the end of April today.
Heavy hailstorms swept across the Troodos mountains on Tuesday, turning parts of the landscape white and surprising both locals and visitors who had already shifted into spring mode.
Images from Troodos Square showed roads, rooftops and open areas covered in a thick layer of hail, giving the area a wintery feel despite the calendar reading April 28.
The sudden change in weather caught many off guard, especially as temperatures in lower areas of Cyprus remain mild and typical for the season.
Hail in the mountains isn’t unheard of, but such intensity this late in spring is unusual enough to raise eyebrows, and spark a flood of photos on social media.
Drivers in the area were urged to be cautious, as the buildup of hail can make roads slippery, almost like ice.
For now, the icy scene is expected to be short-lived, with conditions likely to ease as temperatures stabilize.
Still, for a few hours at least, Troodos reminded everyone that winter isn’t quite ready to let go.
