Heat warning in effect as temperatures climb

Newsroom

A weak low-pressure system is affecting the area, bringing mostly clear skies today. However, the mountains may see locally increased cloud cover in the early afternoon. Winds will primarily blow from the southwest to northwest, starting weak at 3 Beaufort and later becoming weak to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will remain calm to slightly turbulent. Temperatures are expected to reach around 40 degrees Celsius in the interior, 32 degrees on the west and north coasts, 34 degrees on the south and east coasts, and approximately 29 degrees in the higher elevations.

Tonight's weather will be mostly clear, with local fog and low clouds expected in the eastern half during the morning hours. Winds will become variable at 2 to 3 Beaufort, and the sea will stay calm to slightly turbulent. Temperatures will drop to around 21 degrees in the interior and northern coasts, around 22 degrees on the other coasts, and approximately 19 degrees in the higher mountains.

Friday will see locally increased clouds in the highlands during midday and afternoon hours, with isolated rain showers possible. Over the weekend, the weather will initially be mostly clear, but developing clouds during the midday and afternoon hours may bring isolated showers or storms to the mountains and interior regions.

Temperatures are not expected to change significantly on Friday, but a gradual drop is anticipated by Sunday, bringing temperatures close to the average climatic values.

The Department of Meteorology has issued a new yellow warning for Thursday, as temperatures in the interior are expected to rise to 40 degrees Celsius. The warning is in effect from 12 noon until 4:30 p.m.

According to the department, "the maximum temperature inside is expected to rise to around 40 degrees Celsius."

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses during this period.
