A 25-year-old homeless man who broke into a Social Services office in Larnaca to find shelter was fined €300 after pleading guilty to unlawful entry and malicious damage.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening in Agioi Anargyroi when the man forced his way through the office’s door to sleep inside.
Larnaca police spokesperson Spyros Chrysostomou said authorities were alerted around 6 p.m. after the break-in. Officers arrived on the scene and confirmed with the office manager that nothing had been stolen.
The man was arrested and brought before the Larnaca District Court on Wednesday, where he admitted to the charges. The court imposed a fine, concluding the case.
While the ruling brings legal closure, the case highlights the ongoing issue of homelessness in Cyprus, raising questions about support for vulnerable individuals in need of shelter.
