Newsroom

A massive fire tore through a factory in the Aradippou Industrial Area on Monday afternoon, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky and drawing a major emergency response.

The towering smoke plume could be seen from across Larnaca, with residents sharing images and videos as firefighters battled to bring the blaze under control.

According to initial information, the fire broke out at a factory that manufactures refrigerators. Authorities are also investigating reports that people may be trapped inside the building, although no official confirmation has been given of any injuries or entrapments.

The Fire Service has deployed a large number of crews to the scene, including fire engines, a hydraulic telescopic platform, and a breathing apparatus vehicle. Additional specialist support has also been requested from the Emergency Response Unit (EMAK).

Police officers have cordoned off the area and are managing traffic to allow emergency services to operate safely.

Firefighters are focusing their efforts on containing the flames and preventing the fire from spreading to nearby industrial buildings, as the blaze continues to burn.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and will be investigated once the scene is declared safe.

Residents in the wider Larnaca area have been able to see the thick cloud of smoke from kilometers away, making the incident one of the most visible industrial fires to hit the district in recent months.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area and follow any instructions issued by emergency services while firefighting operations continue.
