The fight against poaching was the central topic of a meeting Monday between the Hunting Federation and the Minister of Justice.
Also present at the meeting, according to a Federation statement, were the Chief of Police, the MMAD Commander, the head of the Anti-Poaching Unit, and other officials.
The Federation emphasized the need for a more effective Anti-Poaching Squad, noting that serious poaching cases often involve individuals "connected to organized crime and the underworld."
They also stressed the importance of increased cooperation between the police and the Game and Fauna Service for improved coordination and efficiency in anti-poaching operations.
The Federation raised the issue of upgrading the Anti-Poaching Unit's equipment and proposed establishing a dedicated hotline ("Hunter's Line") for reporting poaching incidents immediately.
The Minister and the Chief of Police gave assurances that the Anti-Poaching Unit is staffed "commensurate with the seriousness of each operation" and that new vehicles have been ordered to further strengthen the unit.
It was noted that poaching incidents can be reported through the existing "Citizen's Line" at 1410 and that improved coordination and cooperation between the Game and Fauna Service and the Anti-Poaching Unit are expected.
