A coordinated police operation in Limassol uncovered 30 people working illegally at a local business, highlighting ongoing concerns over unregistered labor and worker exploitation in Cyprus.

The operation, carried out by the Aliens and Immigration Service (Limassol Division) together with the Limassol Police Directorate, took place on Monday as part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal employment.

All 30 individuals were arrested at the scene. Police later confirmed that five of them were living in Cyprus illegally and have since been taken into custody. The remaining 25 were questioned in writing and released pending further investigation.

The manager of the business allegedly employing the workers was also charged in writing and could face legal action once the investigation is complete.

Authorities have not disclosed the nature of the business or its exact location but said inquiries are continuing at the Episkopi Police Station.

Police stressed that such inspections are part of wider efforts to protect workers’ rights, ensure fair employment practices, and curb the shadow economy that often thrives in certain sectors.

While the latest arrests shed light on the scale of the issue, officials say more operations of this kind are expected in the coming weeks as authorities tighten checks across the island.
