Daniel Radcliffe has openly shared his thoughts on the upcoming TV series that will feature a different actor playing the iconic role of Harry Potter.
Warner Bros was responsible for producing the eight film adaptations of the books, which collectively earned over $7.7 billion at the global box office.
In April, Warner Bros., the production company, announced its plans to adapt J.K. Rowling's beloved book series for television, with Rowling herself taking on a producer role.
According to The Independent, the TV series will stay true to the novels, with each season focusing on one of the seven books.
Naturally, the new project will introduce a fresh cast, including a new actor to portray the beloved wizard. Radcliffe, who portrayed Harry Potter in the eight films released from 2001 to 2011, recently discussed his feelings on the matter. The now 33-year-old actor expressed that he always anticipated the moment when someone else would step into the character that brought him fame. He likened it to the transition of Sherlock Holmes portrayals, explaining, "I think Harry Potter was always destined to be the new Sherlock Holmes. People who watched Basil Rathbone portray Sherlock Holmes said, 'No one could have played the role better than him. But the character of Holmes will go to someone else eventually.'"
Basil Rathbone famously portrayed Sherlock Holmes in 14 Hollywood films between 1939 and 1946, and the popular detective has been portrayed by various actors, including Henry Cavill, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Robert Downey Jr.
Regarding the young actor who will take on the role of Harry Potter, Radcliffe expressed a curious thought, saying, "The strange thought I have now is: 'There's probably an eight-year-old kid out there somewhere whose life is going to change in two years.' That's what I'm thinking at the moment."
The TV series will be produced by J.K. Rowling's company, Brontë Film, in collaboration with the HBOMax platform.
