Paphos Mayor Phaedon Phedonos met Monday with the CEO of Hermes Airports, Eleni Kalogirou, and her team to talk about improving the experience at Paphos International Airport.

The mayor raised concerns about delays for passengers, especially during busy tourist seasons, and asked Hermes to act quickly to make travel through the airport faster and more efficient. He also stressed that smoother service will help keep Paphos looking good for visitors.

Mayor Phedonos highlighted the importance of planning around the airport’s ongoing expansion, which is expected to finish by June 2027, so travelers aren’t disrupted. He also suggested upgrading the airport’s look, including replacing the old concrete barriers at entrances with something more modern and attractive.

Kalogirou said Hermes is working to stay on schedule and improve the airport’s overall image. She pointed out that staff shortages at arrival checkpoints, run by the Cyprus Police, are a major reason for passenger delays.

The meeting, held at Paphos Municipal Hall, was described as cooperative, with everyone agreeing on the need to upgrade the airport and boost tourism in the area. Other attendees included Hermes’ Director of Aviation Development, Marketing and Communications Maria Kouroupi, ETAP Paphos Executive Director Nasos Hadjigeorgiou, and Municipal Secretary Themis Filippidis.

With the summer tourist season fast approaching, officials say these improvements should make arriving in Paphos smoother and more welcoming for visitors.
