A Facebook post shared late Friday in the “Weather Enthusiasts of Cyprus” group drew attention after several users described seeing what they believed to be possible missile activity over the eastern Mediterranean.
The original post, published around 11:30 p.m. local time, stated: “(Exoatmospheric?) Ballistic missile interception visible from Larnaca, at around 21:30.” It included a blurry, low-resolution video that was difficult to interpret but appeared to show a streak of light crossing the night sky.
“I saw them too as I was passing by Greek Corner… Shocking… I was wondering what it was…” one commenter, wrote in Greek. Others replied from different cities, including Limassol, saying they had witnessed similar events.
Some users speculated about a connection to missile activity between Iran and Israel, while others expressed concern about the implications for Cyprus. “My God, what if a stray [missile] comes here?” one user wrote.
Though the source of the sightings remains unconfirmed, the conversation reflects heightened public sensitivity amid rising regional tensions. The Israeli military has previously intercepted projectiles over the Mediterranean, occasionally visible from neighboring countries.
Cyprus, located less than 300 kilometers from Israel, has occasionally observed visible military activity linked to conflicts in the region.
