Welcome to the weather forecast, or as I call it, the only report where the ratings go up every time the mercury does!
We’ve got a seasonal low-pressure system hanging around the region today. I walked outside this morning, took one look at the sky, and asked the sun for a break. It handed me an invoice. But joking aside, the weather is staying mainly clear while we all do our best impression of a baked potato.
Here is how today's thermal lineup breaks down across the board:
Inland plains: Reaching a scorching 39°C. No kidding! I haven't seen numbers that high since my last round on the golf course.
Western coast: Holding at a cooler 32°C. That’s about as fresh as it gets today, folks.
Remaining coastlines: Floating right around 34°C. Hot enough to make the seagulls take the bus.
Higher Troodos Mountains: Sitting at a pleasant 28°C. Beautiful up there, though even the pine trees are asking for an iced tea.
Mornings start out nice and quiet; light, variable breezes at around 3 Beaufort. By early afternoon, the wind swings around from the southwest to northwest at a light-to-moderate 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea stays calm to slightly rough, just right if you're out on a boat trying to catch a breeze.
Tonight, the skies stay mainly clear straight through. Winds will drift gently from the southwest to northwest at a light 3 Beaufort, though some of you on the western coast might see a moderate 4 Beaufort breeze early on. The sea stays slightly rough in the west and north, while the rest of the island settles down to calm or slightly rough.
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday: Expect mainly clear skies overall, but keep an eye on the sky after lunch. Clouds developing during the early afternoon are expected to bring isolated showers or a brief thunderstorm in the mountains, and possibly inland too. You'll also get some patches of light fog and low cloud rolling in during the night and early morning hours.
Thursday stays right at these same elevated temperatures, keeping us above seasonal averages. But don't lose heart. A gradual drop moves in by Saturday, bringing temperatures right back down toward normal.
