The tragic traffic collision in Frenaros on Sunday, November 17, claimed the lives of three young people and left two others seriously injured. The victims, aged 18 and 20, have been identified as Martin Martis, Irenaios Adamou, and Nicolas Koutsou. They died when their vehicle collided with another in the early hours of the morning.
The two survivors, aged 18 and 22, were immediately rushed to hospital for treatment. The 18-year-old is being treated at Famagusta General Hospital, and his condition is stable and not life-threatening. However, the 22-year-old, who was transferred to Nicosia General Hospital, is in serious but stable condition.
As the community reels from the loss, the funeral for the three young victims is set to take place tomorrow, Tuesday, November 19, at 2:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Archangel Michael Church in Frenaros, followed by the burial at the Cemetery of the Municipal District of Frenaros.
In a statement, the Municipality of Paralimni-Dherynia expressed its condolences and provided details for the funeral, adding that the families of the deceased have requested that mourners wear white T-shirts and that condolences not be accepted.
The loss has deeply impacted the local community, with Frenaros F.C. 2000 Association announcing a three-day suspension of all sporting activities in honor of the young victims.
Meanwhile, necropsies on the three deceased individuals were conducted this morning at Nicosia General Hospital by the coroner, Dr. Nicolas Charalambous, to determine the exact cause of death. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is ongoing.
