A tragic accident claimed the life of 47-year-old Maria Pasteurcamp, a Ukrainian national with Cypriot citizenship, on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 3 p.m. as Pasteurcamp was driving her saloon car on the Troodos road towards Limassol. Near the village of Alassa, she lost control of the vehicle, which veered to the left and traveled some distance in the groove of the road. The car then climbed a metal guardrail and ended up in a roadside ditch.
Emergency responders from the Fire Service extricated Pasteurcamp from the vehicle. Despite wearing her seat belt, she was pronounced dead upon arrival at Limassol General Hospital.
Limassol Traffic Police Officer Marios Charalambous stated that the causes of the accident are under investigation. Initial findings suggest no involvement of another vehicle. Charalambous noted that there were no eyewitnesses to the crash itself, only drivers who stopped after the accident occurred. Speed is also being considered as a potential factor in the investigation.
Further details will be released as the investigation continues.
