Top Cyprus officials’ salaries made public, judges earn more than President

New figures show senior members of the judiciary take home higher net pay than ministers and MPs under 2026 tax rules.

The monthly paychecks of Cyprus’ top officials have been made public, and the numbers reveal a surprise: while the president tops the salary scale on paper, some senior judges actually take home more money.

According to figures released by the General Accounting Office, Supreme Court judges and the attorney general receive €9,207 net per month, slightly higher than the €9,145 net salary of the president of the republic under the 2026 tax system.

The figures reflect net earnings, meaning what remains after institutional deductions and the new tax brackets coming into force this year. Officials stressed that the amounts do not include any additional allowances, exemptions, or other income that could affect final take-home pay.

Who earns what

Based on the 2026 data, monthly net salaries are as follows:

  • President of the Republic: €9,145
  • Attorney General and Supreme Court president: €9,207
  • Speaker of the House: €7,461
  • District Court judges: €7,456

The gap becomes more noticeable when comparing the judiciary with elected officials in the executive and legislative branches.

Ministers trail judges

Ministers, deputy ministers and the government spokesperson each earn €6,078 net per month, well below senior judges. Even appeal court judges, with net earnings of €8,331, are significantly ahead.

Members of parliament rank lower still, with a net monthly salary of €5,466.

Senior officials out-earn politicians

The data also highlight pay differences within the public service. Permanent secretaries and general directors of ministries earn €7,172 net, a figure that exceeds the salaries of the ministers they serve under.

The same pay level applies to the chief of police, the auditor general and the accountant general. By contrast, commissioners reporting directly to the presidency, including those for the environment, citizens’ rights and equality, receive €5,386 net per month.
