Police in Larnaca are investigating an attempted murder after a 35-year-old man was seriously injured in a knife attack late Tuesday in the village of Kiti.
Officers were called to a parking area around 8 p.m. after reports of blood found on the pavement. Not long after, police were notified that a man had been taken to Larnaca General Hospital with multiple stab wounds.
According to authorities, the victim suffered a deep wound to his right shoulder blade, a stab injury to his left shin and cuts to his right hand. He was admitted to the hospital’s surgical ward, where doctors said his condition is serious but not life-threatening.
As officers were still examining the scene, they stopped a suspicious vehicle passing through the area. Police had received information suggesting the car had been used to transport the injured man to the hospital.
The vehicle was driven by a 38-year-old man, with a 41-year-old woman in the passenger seat. During questioning, the driver allegedly admitted to stabbing the victim with a knife.
Investigators later confirmed that the vehicle belonged to the injured man and that the suspect himself drove him to the hospital after the attack.
A knife believed to have been used in the assault was recovered from the parking lot and taken as evidence.
Police also found that the 38-year-old suspect was living illegally in Cyprus and arrested him at the scene. He was later taken into custody under a court warrant to assist with the investigation.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and police say inquiries are continuing.
