The holiday spirit was alive and well in Nicosia as the Marine Security Guard Detachment of the U.S. Embassy continued their heartwarming tradition of giving back to the community. According to an Instagram post by the U.S. Embassy in Cyprus, the Marines partnered with the American Women’s Club of Cyprus to collect a vanload of toys, which they delivered to the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Cyprus. Their efforts brought smiles and hope to children and families facing challenging times.
The Ronald McDonald House in Nicosia has been a beacon of comfort and support since its opening in 2022. This 13-room facility has already provided over 6,000 nights of free accommodation to 500 families. The house serves as a refuge for families whose children are undergoing treatment at Archbishop Makarios III Hospital. Plans are underway to expand the house by 2025, allowing even more families to benefit from this invaluable resource.
This holiday gesture is part of the broader Toys for Tots campaign, a cherished tradition that began 77 years ago. Through this initiative, U.S. Marines have been spreading joy and delivering toys to children in need, reinforcing their commitment to service both on and off the field. The delivery in Nicosia is a testament to the global reach of this mission and the enduring spirit of generosity embodied by the U.S. Marine Corps.
The collaboration between the U.S. Embassy, the Marines, and RMHC Cyprus underscores the power of community and the impact of collective kindness. As families at the Ronald McDonald House navigate difficult journeys, the thoughtful acts of others remind them that they are not alone.
Here’s to the Marines, RMHC, and everyone who made this holiday season a little brighter for families in Cyprus. Semper Fi!
