The US Navy supply ship, USNS Laramie, made a stop at Limassol port for scheduled maintenance and crew rest, further strengthening Cyprus’ role as a key logistics hub for the U.S. Navy in the region.
U.S. Ambassador to Cyprus, Julie Fisher, welcomed the vessel in a post on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting its significance to U.S. naval operations in Europe. “We welcome USNS Laramie to Limassol for scheduled maintenance and well-earned rest for the crew,” she wrote.
Named after the Laramie River in the United States, the ship plays a crucial role in ensuring the readiness of U.S. naval forces. Its primary mission is to provide fuel to ships and aircraft at sea, enabling sustained operations and rapid response capabilities across the region.
This visit is one of many by U.S. naval vessels using Cypriot ports for logistical support, underscoring the strategic partnership between the United States and Cyprus. Ambassador Fisher emphasized the importance of the USNS Laramie in maintaining the operational strength of the U.S. Navy in Europe.
As Cyprus continues to host more U.S. naval stops, the island’s strategic location and infrastructure are proving indispensable for regional security and cooperation efforts.
