Cyprus Weather Service issued a Yellow Weather Alert for Saturday from noon until 5pm due to very hot weather, with temperatures expected to climb above 40 degrees around the capital.
Officials say people who are particularly sensitive to hot weather, including senior citizens, young children, pregnant women, and people who face health issues, ought to take precautions, such as drink plenty of fluids (water), dress lightly, avoid extended exposure to the sun, and stay in cooled areas using air fans or air condition units.
Weather will be mostly clear on Saturday, with moderate winds and relatively calm seas. Winds could pick up later in the afternoon on the southern coast.
41 Celsius (105 Fahrenheit)
Maximum temperatures are expected to reach 41° Celsius inland, 36° in the east and southern parts of the island, 34° in out west and in the north, and 31° up in the highest elevations on the mountains.
The evening will remain mostly clear with relatively calm seas.
The weather forecast also included information about dust in the air throughout the day but no measurement has prompted an official dust alert as of Saturday at 9am.
Sunday will be mostly clear and a slight temperature is expected to be noticeable.
Monday and Tuesday will be mostly clear during the early part of the day but afternoon clouds are expected to set in, with a chance of local rain showers and even isolated thunderstorms.
