Cyprus businesses embrace AI and e-commerce to boost growth

Digital transformation accelerates as companies turn to online sales and automation.

Newsroom

Businesses in Cyprus are increasingly embracing digital transformation, with artificial intelligence (AI) and e-commerce emerging as major drivers of change. Recent data highlight how companies of all sizes are integrating technology into their operations, signaling a shift in how commercial activity is conducted in the country.

E-commerce trends

Digital channels are playing a growing role in business transactions. Nearly a quarter (23.9%) of Cypriot companies now receive orders through computer networks, excluding standard emails. Similarly, 23% of businesses process orders via websites or apps, while a smaller segment (1.9%) uses Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) systems.

Direct online sales through a company’s own platform account for 17.1% of orders, whereas 14.1% come from multi-business e-market platforms. Orders from private consumers dominate digital transactions at 21.9%, compared to 10% of orders from other businesses or public institutions. These figures underline the increasing importance of online sales channels for both B2C and B2B activity.

Rising adoption of artificial intelligence

AI is also becoming a strategic tool for Cypriot businesses. In 2025, 9.3% of companies reported using AI technologies, up from just 2.6% in 2021. The uptake is particularly high among large enterprises, with 35.1% using AI systems, compared to 15.3% of medium-sized firms and 7.7% of small businesses.

AI applications range from text mining and computer vision to speech recognition, natural language generation, and advanced machine learning techniques. These technologies help businesses collect and analyze data autonomously, make informed decisions, and optimize operations to achieve specific goals.

The trend toward AI adoption is steadily growing across all business sizes. Since 2021, usage among large companies has nearly tripled, medium-sized firms have almost tripled their adoption rates, and small businesses have seen a fourfold increase.

Looking ahead

These trends suggest that Cypriot businesses are increasingly leveraging technology to improve efficiency and expand their market reach. As consumers become more comfortable with online transactions and companies continue to adopt AI, digital and automated systems are set to play a central role in shaping the country’s economic future.
