Paphos airport will expand to boost capacity and modernize facilities

Public invited to weigh in on project’s environmental and community impacts

Newsroom

Hermes Airports has submitted a proposal to expand Paphos Airport to better accommodate rising passenger numbers and bring facilities up to modern standards. As part of the process, the company has launched an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) to weigh potential impacts on the local environment and nearby residents.

The expansion is aimed at improving efficiency during peak travel times, enhancing passenger experience, and supporting Paphos’ growing tourism sector, which could mean a boost to the local economy and more jobs in the area. However, the project may also bring temporary inconveniences to nearby communities, particularly during construction. Increased traffic and noise, as well as long-term effects like shifts in air traffic patterns, are expected to be addressed in the EIA.

To encourage public input on the project’s potential impacts, a draft of the EIA is now available online at www.aeoliki.com. This transparency is part of the regulatory process, giving locals the chance to review and comment on environmental concerns that may arise both during construction and once the expanded facilities are fully operational.

Current laws require Hermes Airports to gather feedback and hold at least one community meeting before finalizing the assessment. The public presentation, organized by the Eastern Paphos Municipality, will take place Tuesday, October 29, at 6 p.m. at the Timi Municipal District Events Hall. Residents are encouraged to attend and can also submit comments or suggestions via email at info@lasolas-services.com until November 19.

The expansion marks a major step forward for Paphos Airport’s development, with a focus on balancing growth and environmental responsibility while keeping local residents' concerns in mind.
