Cyprus orders recall of multiple vehicle models over safety concerns

Motorcycles, cars, electric bicycles, and trucks affected; consumers urged to contact manufacturers promptly.

The Road Transport Department of Cyprus has issued a recall covering six categories of vehicles identified as posing potential safety risks. The decision follows notifications published during the second week of 2026 on the European Union’s Safety Gate rapid alert system for dangerous non-food products.

According to the Department, manufacturers, importers, distributors, and sellers who may have supplied the affected vehicles to the Cypriot market are required to notify the authorities and take immediate action to withdraw them, in line with existing consumer safety legislation.

Vehicle owners are also urged to act promptly. Consumers who own any of the recalled cars, motorcycles, bicycles, or trucks should contact the manufacturer or an authorized representative to receive further instructions. Where dangerous components are involved, users are advised to stop using them without delay and return them to the point of purchase whenever possible.

If an economic operator fails to respect a consumer’s rights regarding the recall, affected individuals are encouraged to submit a written complaint through the Consumer Protection Service’s website. Additional information can be obtained directly from the Road Transport Department or via the email address recalls@rtd.mcw.gov.cy

Vehicles included in the recall

The recall list includes Honda motorcycles of certain model approvals, with no specific production period identified. Authorities warn that defects in these motorcycles could lead to fires and physical injuries.

Several Alfa Romeo Tonale mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid models are also affected. These vehicles were produced between early 2023 and mid-2023, depending on the specific VIN range. The Department has stated that continued use of these vehicles may result in injuries.

Older Ford Ranger passenger vehicles manufactured between 1998 and 2002 have been flagged as well, although their exact model numbers remain unspecified. Their inclusion is based on safety concerns that could potentially cause harm to users.

In addition, Bentley Bentayga Hybrid vehicles produced from late March to early November 2023 are subject to recall due to a risk of fire.

The recall further extends to all production batches of Addbike electric bicycles across multiple model types, as their use may also lead to injuries.

Finally, Renault Trucks electric models D ZE and DWID E ZE, manufactured between August 2023 and February 2025, have been identified as posing a fire hazard and are included in the Department’s recall measures.

Authorities emphasize that compliance from both economic operators and consumers is essential to ensure public safety and prevent accidents linked to the use of these vehicles.
