9,420 deported from Cyprus in 2024

Police engage in 16 joint FRONTEX operations to tackle illegal immigration.

Newsroom

As of December 13, Cyprus has deported or repatriated 9,420 people in 2024, marking a slight increase compared to the 9,276 recorded during the same period last year, according to a statement from the Police.

The latest operation saw the Aliens and Immigration Unit join forces with the FRONTEX agency for a coordinated return flight. On Tuesday, seven individuals who were living in Cyprus illegally were sent back to their countries of origin. The operation was carried out in coordination with Greek authorities, highlighting the ongoing efforts to manage illegal immigration.

This marks the 16th time this year that the Cyprus Police have participated in joint return operations organized by FRONTEX, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency. These operations are part of broader European initiatives to address illegal immigration and ensure effective border management.

The slight uptick in deportations and repatriations reflects Cyprus’s continued focus on handling irregular migration, with authorities working closely with international partners to enforce immigration laws.
