A dusty 33°C peak before the Friday fade

Inland sizzle and hazy horizons to lead the midweek transition.

Newsroom

It looks like the high-pressure system is giving us one last warm hug today before it hands over the keys to a low-pressure system tomorrow. We are currently stuck in that hazy, "pre-summer" vibe where the air feels a bit thick and the thermometer is working overtime.

The Tuesday breakdown: If you are inland, prepare for the warmest day of the week. Temperatures are hitting a peak of 33°C, which is a solid few degrees above what we’d usually expect for mid-May. The south and east coasts are sitting at a very pleasant 28°C, while the west, north, and even the higher mountains are all sharing a cool 25°C.

The sky will be mostly clear, though a thin veil of dust and some high-altitude clouds might make the sun look a bit muted. Keep an eye on the wind later today; it’s going to pick up in the eastern areas, reaching a strong 5 Beaufort before shifting to a more standard northwesterly breeze by the evening.

Tonight, things quiet down nicely once the sun sets. The sky stays clear for the most part, though if you are right on the coast, you might see some low-hanging clouds drift in. The sea will be calm and the breeze light, making it a great night to air out the house before the dust levels pick up again.

Wednesday and Thursday: The transition begins. We are looking at a mix of clear skies and high clouds as the weak low-pressure system starts to move in. Temperatures will hold steady for a bit, but the air might feel a little more unsettled.

Friday: This is the day to watch. The clouds are expected to thicken up enough to actually deliver some isolated rain, primarily along the coasts. The winds will also be making a comeback, especially near the sea.

The good news is the heatwave will officially break by Friday. Temperatures will drop back down to those comfortable seasonal averages, clearing out the dust and giving us a much fresher atmosphere just in time for the weekend.
