According to reports, the Legal Service of the Republic of Cyprus is expected to take over the next phase of the high-profile “Sandy” case, as the possibility of the Council of Ministers appointing criminal investigators now appears unlikely based on the information gathered so far and the report submitted to the Minister of Justice.
Sources say the report delivered to the executive branch does not include final findings or conclusions about the substance of the case. Instead, it focuses on the procedural side of the investigative work carried out so far.
The results of examinations conducted by experts from Europol are expected by the end of the week. Those findings will be added to the case file along with the remaining evidence, testimonies, data, and material already collected by the investigative team.
The findings from the Federal Bureau of Investigation are also still pending. The FBI team that had been in Cyprus has already left the island, although its report has not yet been submitted. Authorities consider the results from both Europol and the FBI significant, as they could reinforce, confirm, or potentially alter the picture formed so far by investigators.
As for any official public update, competent sources say that any release of information will depend on the assessment of the Legal Service and whether making details public could affect any possible criminal proceedings.
With those developments, the case is entering a critical stage. Once the expert findings are finalized and added to the file, the case will be forwarded to the Legal Service, which will then decide on the next steps in its handling.
