Akaki Peristerona road closes due to stormy weather

Heavy rain and strong winds cause traffic headaches in rural Nicosia

Newsroom

The Peristerona – Akaki road is closed due to strong winds and heavy rain that have affected the area earlier on Tuesday, causing water and muddy puddles along the way.

The wider area including Atromeritis and Meniko villages were under a storm watch, and according to the Fire Service, four fire trucks are standing by along with two civil defence vehicles.

Authorities issued a warning to all drivers to maintain low speeds and keep a safe distance from vehicles in front of them. All cars should have their lights on and yield to vehicles in the opposite direction wherever necessary.

Drivers are also warned to be cautious of slippery conditions that can cause vehicles to hydroplane, especially those traveling over 50 kilometres per hour.
