Authorities have responded to a crisis on Acharon Street in central Athens, where a man is threatening to cause an explosion using a gas cylinder or jump from the sixth-floor balcony of an apartment building.
The man, reportedly a Syrian national, is also armed with knives. Police, fire services, emergency medical responders, and a specialized negotiator from the Hellenic Police are on the scene.
Traffic has been halted along Acharon Street between Marni and Stournari streets due to the ongoing operation. Nearby, the Ministry of Agricultural Development is being evacuated as a precaution.
