Greek Cypriot woman arrested by Turkish Cypriot police in traffic light accident near Ledra Palace

A Greek Cypriot female has been arrested in connection with a traffic accident in north Nicosia, while a 23-year-old male is in critical condition.

According to local media in the north, Turkish Cypriot police arrested a 28-year-old Greek Cypriot woman following an accident at the traffic lights near Ledra Palace.

It was not immediately clear who failed to yield but reports said the car blocked the motorbike at the moment of the collision

A 23-year-old man on his motorcycle was critically injured and was rushed to the Emergency Room at Burhan Nalbantoglu State Hospital in north Nicosia.

The collision took place when the woman was driving her car from north to south and approached the traffic lights from a side road. According to Kathimerini Cyprus, the lights were disabled while media reports in the north also said there was maintenance work in the area.

It was not immediately clear who failed to yield but some reports indicated that the car blocked the motorbike at the moment of the collision.

The names and vehicle registration plates of both drivers were released to the media, while the man’s condition remained critical.
