Breakthrough in 'Dimitroui' attempted murder

Cyprus law enforcement discovers crucial leads in Pervolia following attempted murder investigation

Newsroom

Investigations into the attempted murder of 34-year-old Dimitris Andronikou, known as "Dimitroui," are underway in Pervolia following the incident on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, on the Paleochori - Anthoupoli road.

Law enforcement received an anonymous tip on Tuesday, April 30, leading them to a significant discovery in the area. During investigations, evidence potentially linked to the weapon used in the crime was found and sent for scientific testing. Investigators are eagerly awaiting the results. The investigation temporarily paused late Tuesday night and resumed early Wednesday morning, with members of the Nicosia, Larnaca, and Port Police continuing to scour the area for additional evidence.

The motive behind the crime appears to be connected to the nightlife scene in Nicosia, with tensions rising since the murder of Alexis Mavromichalis (Alexoui) last October. Investigators suspect a settling of scores among individuals vying for control within the nightlife community, where conflicts over protection and other activities are not uncommon.

Authorities focused on "Dimitroui," who had prior run-ins with the law, and his association with the group of the murdered Alexis Mavromichalis. Seven individuals remain in custody, with investigators believing they have apprehended key figures involved in the crime. One additional suspect of Arab origin is being sought, possibly residing in a foreign country.

Dimitris Andronikou remains in critical condition following the attack.

Police are actively searching for the firearm and scooter used in the incident. Surveillance footage captured the assailants approaching Andronikou on a scooter before opening fire, with one shot striking him in the neck. Investigators are also exploring the possibility of a burnt motorcycle found on Kyrenia Avenue in Aglantzjia being connected to the attempted murder.

The investigation continues.
