Celebrities' homes destroyed as wildfires force Hollywood's awards season to pause (VIDEO)

Awards season on hold as wildfires cause disruption

Newsroom

Hollywood's glittering awards season has hit a major roadblock as devastating wildfires rage across Los Angeles, forcing the cancellation and delay of key events. With stars like Paris Hilton and Billy Crystal losing their homes, and thousands evacuated, the fires have sparked chaos in Tinseltown.

Already, major premieres like the Robbie Williams biopic Better Man and Unstoppable, starring Jennifer Lopez, were scrapped. Now, the ripple effect is hitting the industry's biggest celebrations.

The Critics Choice Awards, set for this weekend, have been pushed to January 26th. Joey Berlin, CEO of the Critics Choice Association, expressed support for those affected by the tragedy. The ceremony will still take place in Santa Monica and air live on E!.

The prestigious BAFTA Tea Party in Beverly Hills, which was to take place on Saturday, has also been called off. Organizers prioritized safety, offering their thoughts to those impacted by the fires.

Oscar nominations, which were supposed to be announced next Friday, have been delayed by two days. The new shortlist reveal is now scheduled for January 19th, giving voters extra time as the fires continue to wreak havoc across Southern California. The Academy sent condolences to members affected by the disaster.

The Writers Guild of America postponed its nominations, initially scheduled for today, to January 13th, due to the ongoing emergency.

Film productions have ground to a halt, with FilmLA warning that resources for shooting may be scarce, and several filming permits have been revoked. NBCUniversal has paused production on several major shows, including Loot, Ted, and Hacks.

Even America's Got Talent was forced to reschedule auditions, originally planned for Sunday, with producers assuring fans the safety of everyone involved is their top priority.

With Hollywood facing unprecedented disruption, the industry is pulling together to weather the storm—both literally and figuratively.
