At the inauguration of the Freedom Museum in Chloraka on Tuesday, President Nikos Christodoulides reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reforming and modernizing the Cypriot state, which has remained largely unchanged since 1960.

Asked about recent developments in educational reform, the President emphasized the government’s broader agenda of institutional change. “The Government is moving forward with reforms and will do everything to change the state of 1960, to modernize the state of 1960, with a single and unique purpose: to serve the citizens of Cyprus,” Christodoulides said.

He outlined several ongoing and upcoming initiatives, including tax reform, reforms of the Legal Service and Audit Office, the current educational reform, and a pension reform expected to be announced within the next year. “These efforts aim to change everything that needs to be changed so that our state can be modernized, but primarily so that the Cypriot citizens, the many, not the few, are served,” the President added.

Acknowledging that reforms can generate resistance, Christodoulides noted, “I understand the reactions; they are fully respected, but the Government will move forward, and I hope that the same response and the same political will will come from the House of Representatives as well.”
