The Larnaca District Court imposed a 30-day prison sentence and a €700 fine on a 52-year-old who had attacked a member of police after the officer fined his son for violating restriction measures.

The court on Friday found the man guilty of not complying with measures in place to contain the spread of coronavirus.

According to the events of the case, the 52-year-old man on Wednesday had gone to the scene where his 19-year-old son was caught by police moving outdoors without first having sent an SMS as required by government measures. The father caused a scene, angered by the €300 fine issued to his son for violating restriction measures, and punched the police officer in the face.

The man was arrested and charged with assault, causing actual bodily harm, assaulting an officer, resisting arrest, and non-compliance with measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
