More teams are following suit with UEFA enforced bans

In addition to these three, three other teams from the second division are facing transfer embargoes.

The news that six Cypriot teams are banned from making transfers by FIFA should come as no surprise. Outstanding debts continue to catch up with club administrations, who typically wait until the last minute to settle these debts and lift the penalty.

FIFA has long been announcing the teams that are under transfer bans, which are currently in effect. As mentioned earlier, in Cyprus, six teams will not be able to strengthen their squads this summer unless they resolve their debts and reach agreements with the players or coaches they owe money to.

Of these six teams, three play in the top division: APOEL, Omonia, and Anorthosis. The two "eternal" rivals, APOEL and Omonia, each face one category of embargo, while Anorthosis, based in Famagusta, faces four.

Additionally, three other teams are currently under transfer bans. These are Doxa, with four categories, Akritas Chlorakas with one, and Alki, which has now been dissolved.

These debts are often settled at the last minute, as clubs usually wait until the deadline approaches to pay them off in order to lift the penalty, as has happened in previous cases.
