Cyprus braces for weekend showers

Cyprus to see hail and intense rainfall in coming days as conditions shift

Newsroom

A weak high-pressure system is currently affecting the region, but from Saturday night onwards, a weak low-pressure system is expected to temporarily impact Cyprus.

Today’s weather will be mostly clear, although increased local cloud cover is expected by midday, particularly over mountainous areas. Winds will blow mainly from the northeast, gradually shifting to southwesterly to northwesterly in the west, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort. Seas will be generally slight, though occasionally moderate in northern, eastern, and southern areas. Temperatures will reach around 25°C inland, 26°C along the coast, and 15°C in the higher mountains.

Tonight, skies will remain mostly clear, with occasional increased cloud cover, especially in the southwest. Winds will blow northwesterly to northeasterly, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort. Seas will be slight overall, becoming calm in northern and eastern areas.

On Saturday, the day will start mostly sunny, with progressively increasing mid-to-high cloud cover, and isolated showers possible in the afternoon and evening.

By Sunday, rain and scattered thunderstorms are expected. Storms may bring hail, and some rainfall could be intense and prolonged. A thin layer of dust will also begin drifting into the atmosphere. Monday’s weather will be partly cloudy, with scattered showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms.

Temperatures are expected to remain above average through Saturday, before dropping on Sunday and staying stable on Monday, aligning near or slightly below seasonal averages.
