Cyprus’s new hunting season officially opens Sunday, Nov. 2, and the Game and Fauna Service is urging hunters to stay safe, follow the rules, and respect the wildlife and their fellow hunters.
Under the motto “Hunt Responsibly,” the Service is emphasizing that all game, like hares, partridges, and francolins, must be recorded in the Artemis Cy app. This helps track hunting activity and ensures that the sport can continue sustainably across the island.
If the app isn’t working, hunters can report their catches via SMS to local district numbers, making sure the authorities know who caught what.
What hunters need to know:
- Schedule & limits: Hunting is allowed Sundays and Wednesdays until Dec. 28. Each hunter can bag 1 hare, 4 partridges, and 1 francolin per outing. Other game has no limit.
- Safety first: Wear bright orange, use protective glasses, never hunt alone, and avoid alcohol. Always confirm your target before shooting, keep firearms unloaded when moving, and transport them safely.
- Respect boundaries: Hunting is banned within 500 meters of residential areas, 200 meters from isolated houses, and 300 meters from military sites. Violators face fines starting at €2,000, and up to €25,000 for night poaching.
The Service also reminded hunters not to post photos or videos that could harm the image of the sport.
“This is a time to enjoy the outdoors responsibly,” the Service said, wishing all hunters a safe, respectful, and enjoyable season.
