Cypriot athletes are set to receive substantial financial rewards following their performances at the Paris Olympics, reflecting the nation's commitment to honoring its sports stars, according to a report by Kathimerini reporter Hectoras Georgiou.

Pavlos Kontides, who secured a silver medal in sailing, is expected to be awarded €125,000 by the state, marking another chapter in his storied career. Kontides, who previously won silver at the 2012 Olympics, continues to elevate Cyprus' profile on the global stage.

According to the Cyprus Olympic Committee (KOA), the financial rewards for Olympic achievements are significant. Gold medalists receive €150,000, silver medalists like Kontides earn €125,000, and bronze medalists are awarded €110,000. These bonuses are disbursed in the following calendar year, provided that the athlete has not tested positive for any banned substances.

Cyprus doesn't just reward medalists. Athletes who finish just outside the podium also receive recognition. For instance, Elena Koulichenko, who placed 7th in the high jump, will receive €55,000. Gymnast Marios Georgiou, who finished 6th, is set to receive €60,000, while Milan Trajkovic, who placed 9th in the 110m hurdles, will be awarded €45,000.

These financial incentives reflect Cyprus' dedication to supporting and celebrating its athletes, not only for their victories but also for their exceptional performances on the world stage. The COA's reward structure also extends to other major events, such as the World and European Championships, ensuring that athletes across various disciplines are acknowledged for their hard work and achievements.
