A humanitarian aid shipment of 1,200 tons departed from Limassol Port on Monday night, bound for Gaza as part of Cyprus’ “Amalthea” Plan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

“The Republic of Cyprus continues the implementation of the Amalthea Plan initiative to contribute to addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza,” the ministry said in a statement.

The mission falls under the UN-2720 mechanism and UNOPS, with the international humanitarian organization World Central Kitchen serving as the final contractor and distributor. The entire effort is coordinated under the UN delivery framework.

The cargo will be transshipped through Ashdod Port and distributed inside Gaza according to prearranged agreements, without additional security checks at the point of arrival.

“The aid, which includes food supplies to meet child nutrition needs, comes from Cyprus (700 tons) through the CyprusAid mechanism of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. An additional 500 tons are donations from the Government of Malta and international humanitarian organizations based in the United States, Italy, the Sovereign Order of Malta, and Kuwait,” the ministry said. It added that “the contribution of the Government of the United Arab Emirates is always pivotal in this effort.”

Cyprus expressed gratitude to all states and organizations participating in the collective effort, emphasizing that it is carried out in full respect of international humanitarian law and through UN-affiliated entities.

“It is also underlined that our consistent position remains the urgent need for increased, safe, and unhindered flow of humanitarian aid on a massive scale to the civilian population of Gaza,” the statement said.

The ministry noted that Cyprus’ infrastructure for the collection, secure inspection, and dispatch of aid remains available as an additional humanitarian corridor for the international community.

“Cyprus will continue to contribute constructively, as a country of the region and the closest EU member state, by promoting and implementing humanitarian initiatives,” the announcement concluded.

In a related statement, Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos said the mission was carried out “in close cooperation and coordination with international partners and humanitarian organizations, and within the UN framework.” He noted that the 1,200 tons bound for Gaza include food supplies aimed particularly at meeting child nutrition needs.

“The Republic of Cyprus remains active in the humanitarian field, contributing to the international effort,” Kombos said.
